UPDATE: International tenor, 41, ends his career
mainThe highly rated Joseph Kaiser has cancelled two operas at Teater an der Wien and one at Covent Garden.
Kaiser, 41, offered no immediate confirmation on his website. Nothing, either, from his agent, Bill Palant at EtudeArts.
His Operabase profile shows no future engagements.
Also out is the US tenor Bryan Hymel. He has scratched San Francisco’s season-opener, Gonoud’s Roméo et Juliette for ‘personal reasons’. His replacement is Samoan-New Zealand tenor Pene Pati.
UPDATE: Joseph Kaiser on his Facebook page: ‘Due to personal reasons, I will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from my international singing career. Thank you for your support over the years. I will deeply miss all of my wonderful colleagues and am indebted to all those who believed in me for the past 22 years. I ask that you kindly respect my privacy.’
That sounds terminal.
Other sources are announcing that Kaiser has officially retired from the opera scene. Hymel should do the same instead of cancelling everytime everywhere.
Why retirement? Anyone has insights?
Maybe he just diesnt like the way of life anymore and being dragged over the internet by amateurs!
Wealthy family and doesn’t need the hassle and grind anymore…
Wow

Also Joe is an obnoxious colleague. As a secondary singer he always treated me like trash. He is very much a an upperclass socialite and was raised as such. Multi millionaire without manners. Ask any secondary singers at The Met what their opinion of him is and you’ll hear the same.
Yet another anonymous attempt at character assassination. Shameful
Hi. Not sure who you are but let me know when you’d like to connect, so I can gain some insight into that which makes me an anonymous colleague. Thanks.
Of course most singers turn up and perform as per commitments but there does seem to be a remarkable number who don’t. In other careers this would be called unprofessional, letting down colleagues and audiences. Depressing.
Wow. Don’t know who you are, but you really have no business writing this. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
I only discovered JK recently on the Met broadcast of ‘Capriccio’ – wow, what a perfromer, what a voice. I just hope he’s ok, millionaire or not
