And he’s just been hired as a professor of conducting at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami. Looks like the Maestro will be enjoying lots of sunshine and warm weather.
Sounds like he’s finally retiring! 🙂
Good luck, Jerry! Definitely a nice weather spot too!
Keep rolling that log! Maybe someday…one day..it may roll back to you. Just don’t count on it.
I have great memories of him from my youthful days of going to the Mostly Mozart festival in its early years of the 1980’s. Damn those were good times.
A good orchestra is about to get even better.
Why, did they rescind their offer?
Was he retired before this? He was a terrific trumpet soloist and made Seattle a major symphony orchestra through all of his 20th century music recordings. Its a great legacy.
He is also music director of the Eastern Music Festival.
I agree ! a great soloist in his day who inspired me to become a professional trumpet player. Good luck to him in his new appointment.
He’s one of the most creative programmers and directors around. Did a great job in Seattle.
Good for him and Florida.
That’s nice.
An unanswered question in all this: what happened to his predecessor, -Ramon Tebar, who hails from Spain. It appears he may have returned there and has several opera engagements with the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
Ramon Tebar is chief conductor in Orquesta de Valencia since 2017, succeeding Yarom Traub, and guest conductor in Palau de les Arts (Opera House), in Valencia as well, since 2015.
Thanks for that Luis. Tebar is someone to watch; he’s good.
I think several organizations in Florida realized Ramon Tebar was taking them for a ride by double booking himself and not showing up at one of them … also, his ego seemed outstripping his talent as the work was found wanting ! Sad.
Tebar is artistic director of Opera Naples (Florida, that is.)
agreed, double booking galore and not showing up. Shoulda hired Ric Madrus. He always showed up , was caring and performances were amazing!
Well, it’s not a very busy orchestra so won’t take much of his time, and he can tie it in with visits to the Frost School. Maybe it comes with a guest suite at Mar-a-Lago?
It would seem that someone who did so much to advance the Seattle Symphony would get a more established ensemble than the Palm Beach Symphony, and have more recognition in the international community. Is it perhaps part of an American syndrome of thinking conductors need to be European?
More simple may be. Palm Beach is a good place to live without too much work. Do you know who is the guest conductor in Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria (Another good place for relax)? Gunter Herbig.
