Just in: A breakthrough music director
mainThe Berkeley Symphony has chosen Joseph Young as its music director – apparently on the strength of a jump-in performance he gave of Bernstein’s 2nd symphony while the orchestra was struggling to find replacements for its former chief, Joana Carneiro.
Young is presently Resident Conductor of the National Youth Orchestra (USA) at Carnegie Hall.
He’ll start work in September.
Excellent choice for the Berkeley Symphony.
Joseph Young lead the Baltimore Symphony in a truly exciting performance of Alan Shulman’s “A Laurentian Overture” in 2016.
Great music-making lies ahead in the East Bay!
Congratulation! We really liked him when he was assistant in Phoenix.
A brilliant talent who assisted the superb Maestro Robert Spano in Atlanta for several seasons. Congratulations!
