actually she s excellent and appreciated. you can’t be really good and surfing on the ‘i m a female conductor please invite me’ – wave which is just and only a new side of showbiz and making money. she is just good (for some music like Bruckner, Mahler, Tschaik still to prove).
She deeply moved with a thoughtful performance of Sibelius’ 5th symphony in Boston a few years ago. Nothing to do with gender.
right. that s what i said. she is excellent. I said two other things: I. she hasn t done a lot of Bruckner, Mahler and Tschaik. Sibelius is surely close to her, no doubt. II. She doesn t need to join the new female conductress movement which is an Invention of agents to enter the market space with new people to earn more money.
Here is a recent performance of the conductor performing Mahler’s 4th: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jvf_HbScCIQ&t=1593s
I’ve heard Mälkki in Mahler’s 5th, 9th and Das Lied von der Erde, all excellent performances. Hope that you’ll get a chance to experience her Mahler one day!
We are probably on the same page.
Regarding the conductress movement, maybe that’s more of a media and possibly agents thing (Slippeddisc included). In her interviews Mälkki comes across as a no-nonsense person.

I have heard two Mahler Ninths and a Lied Von der Erde with her. At the top.
What gorgeous music-making
Mesmerizing performance. And a refreshing lack of histrionics.
I’m a fan from when she led Saariaho’s “L’Amour de Loin” at the MET last year. That was memorable.
Susannah has had a certain success in modern music making, with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group
No pasa nada ! The correct Spanish meaning of it : “It does not matter” , as it is more and more nowadays with correct conductors and technically proficient orchestras. Time beating at its best.
