BBC Proms post better results
mainAttendances rose at the 2018 Proms after a 3-year dip.
The average attendance for the main evening Proms in the Royal Albert Hall was 91%.
In all, over 300,000 people attended Proms events and there were two million views of clips on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. That’s 68% up on 2017.
Sadly, this implies that this year’s “safety first” programming put more bums on seats which is one (but only one) measure of success.
Kudos to KP and the BPO for the more adventurous repertoire they played in their first concert
It was the worst season of all time. The programming atrocious.
Wow, my reaction was the complete opposite. I made it to 12 concerts this year, which I think is the most any year since I was a student in the 90s. Particular highlights for me included several terrific concerts from the BBCSSO (Strauss Alpine Symphony with Volkov, Nørgård 3rd Symphony and Mahler 5 with Dausgaard), and memorable 1st act of Die Walküre from Philharmonia/Anja Kampe/Robert Dean Smith/Salonen. Lots more besides that I wish I could have got to (Pelléas, Turangalîla, Jacob Collier all in the first week, the two Brandenburg Project concerts, BPO/Wang/Petrenko doing Prokofiev and Schmidt, …). Roll on 2019!
Is the 91 percent full just for the seats? Or does it include prommers?
