He has a great conductor to follow and this is wonderful.
He is himself a very very good conductor and still he wants to learn more.
I knew he was a fantastic pianist but doublebass too? This guy is seriously talented:

Yup! And this clip also shows Yuja Wang’s very serious musical talent. It’s one of those clips that belong in an argument about a bright future.
The orchestra sounds a little rough.
It’s just a photo and he has a tremendous aura. No video?
Nice to see the new MD of the IP support the initiative. Hopefully a sign of a better future for everyone in the region.
Has there ever been a more pretentious, dumb name for an orchestra? Has never caught on. Pace Goethe.
er
it is unusual and hard to remember correctly – dont know about “more pretentious” or “dumber” …
demonstrated by the fact that the above post calls it “West East Diwan” orchestra, while its actual name is West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.
the intended connection to Goethe’s collection of poems with this very title (West-östlicher Divan) seems to be somewhat fitting, since this collection – broadly speaking – is about a fruitful exchange between orient and occident, Christianity and Islam, Europe and the middle East.
apart from that: I’m very impressed by Lahav Shani and will be following his work with interest in Israel and elsewhere.
Classy: musicaly, politically, personally. Next: a Trout quintet!
Are there any muslims or arabs in the Israel Philharmonic?
This guy should give up conducting and just play piano and bass. He needs to step aside and let women conductors completely take over. Israel and Palestine will be at peace if all conductors are women and this orchestra is conducted by a far superior woman. Same with the governments of Israel and Palestine. If men no longer serve government, we will have peace and harmony throughout the world. Men are warmongers because men are spawns of Satan. Women embody God because God is a woman.
A man, playing piano or double bass? How dare you.
Intereestingly, Zubin Mehta also played double bass, and in a film of Schubert’s “Trout” quintet with Zukerman, DuPre, Perlman, and Barenboim.
