Just in: Noseda holds onto his Carnegie Hall date
mainGianandrea Noseda was meant to be appearing at Carnegie next May with the Teatro Regio Torino.
But Turin has sacked its manager and cancelled its US tour, ostensibly for lack of funds.
Noseda, however, will honour the date, He’s bringing in the National Symphony Orchestra from Washington to perform Liszt’s Dante Symphony and Rossini’s Stabat Mater, with all-Italian vocal soloists.
What a ridiculous program.
Funny, I was thinking, “what an interesting program”.
+1
Yes, it is a ridiculous program. I want Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony.
Or an all-Mahler program. New York hasn’t seen one of them in … days.
Oh yeah? Well, I want Brandenburg #6 and Rachmaninov The Bells.
(Actually I would love to hear the Rossini again. I might even consider sitting through the Liszt in order to hear it.)
Me, too–the Rossini needs to be heard more often. Noseda constructs very interesting programs.
I remember those lines in the film “Passage to India”;..”what a terrible river – what a wonderful river”!!
It seems to me that Noseda has done enough of Rossini’s Stabat Mater in recent years. This has become a work associated with him but he can do much better.
He just gave a stunning performance of the Rossini in Tel-Aviv with the Israel Philharmonic…..
It is a ridiculous program, but it should still be worth it in order to hear Noseda lead the Rossini “Stabat Mater”
Well, half of the program is quite DANTEing (it’s a stretch – a ridiculous one).
The interesting thing is that in the next season’s Washington concerts, Noseda will conduct Liszt’s Faust Symphony. The Dante Symphony is not announced in Washington. The Stabat Mater is included in a subscription concert alongside works by Vivaldi, Gesualdo and Dallapiccola.
