Tragic loss: Jaw cancer claims Chicago horn player

Dominic Davis played horn in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and went on to study at the Bienen School of Music, Northwestern University.

Diagnosed with cancer, he lost part of his jaw but got back to playing as soon as he possibly could.

Yesterday, the university announced his death.

    There are no words but sorrow and tremendous sympathy for his family, and his friends and professors at Northwestern. Perhaps he touched more lives in his short time on earth than many have had the chance to over longer years.

    How dreadful and utterly shocking for his family and friends. My heart and prayers go out to them. It is often a somewhat hackneyed phrase, but I hope his sheer guts and determination to keep pursuing his dream in the face of dreadful odds will be one of his legacies. RIP!
