Nice cat. But what about the music?
Being a little catty, are we?
I was drawn to the cat, too!! Isn’t that De-Pussy?
Well-deserved…… Higdon is an excellent composer:

……………. at the opposite end of her female peers who try to outdo the male competition in terms of morbid aggression:

What is this, a drive to make her the wealthiest composer on the planet? Couldn’t they find someone actually deserving of it? Libby Larsen, whom she has copied completely? Or someone with no place to live?
I guess this is one of those prizes famous people get for being famous, like the Birgit Nilsson prize… oh well, good for her.
(Also it seems to me that, like competitions, foundations like being able to say “past recipients include” followed by a string of famous names, probably to show their acumen in selecting winners)
That reminds me of ex-contrabassonist David Milwaukie’s “From Where I Sh*t”, the study about music prizes being awarded for the ugliest pieces ever written and thus shared around in the orchestral circuit, which he had to play against all common and musical sense, adding his instrumental noises to the whole. These players never learn about their own time!

Since my cat looks exactly the same, I’m seriously thinking of becoming an award-winning composer.
Hard not to adore the cat, who will be (in all likelihood) oblivious to all this attention.
