New York Philharmonic loses a new v-p
mainSusan Madden, hired in January by Deborah Borda as v-p in charge of development, has gone before April comes in.
Couldn’t take the heat? More likely, as an outsider, didn’t like the music world.
She will be replaced on April 9 by Marita Altman, coming from Opera Philadelphia and before that from the Met. She’ll be raiding Peter Gelb’s donor book.
What musical chairs…Altman was in Philadelphia barely one year. Not long for a senior executive.
Last I checked, average tenure for a development director at a big city opera company or symphony was about 2 years. People who stay for the long haul are pretty unusual.
Miami Vice ?
I have worked for Susan Madden. Trust me, the Philharmonic is better off without her. Deborah Borda has made the right decision.
Having also worked with Susan Madden, I have to also agree that the Philharmonic made the right decision.
