Just in: Seattle Symphony announces gift by … Taylor Swift
mainThe pop star has sent the orch $50,000 in gratitude for its recording of John Luther Adams’ haunting piece, Become Ocean.
In her letter to music director Ludovic Morlot (which has not been published), Swift is said to have praised the beauty of the work and the musicianship of the orchestra. She also recalled going to hear her local symphony with her grandmother and how important that was to her.
Two years ago, we reported that she gave $100,000 to her home town Nashville Symphony.
Because she likes the things we do.
Morlot has gone on Youtube to say thanks.
Taylor’s style.
The Adams session.
Brava.
Very nice news!
Good on you, Tay Tay – I’ve had the pleasure of hearing the Seattle Symphony myself, I’ve got cousins there – glad you enjoyed your recent Australasian trip as well, and have a really nice 25th birthday celebration on the 13th. 🙂
Taylor Swift is an amazing artist as anyone who has seen her perform will attest. The fact that she has given the donation to Seattle is only part of the story. Her endorsement, albeit indirect, of the recording should surely boost its sales quite significantly. And given her peerless position in the pop industry, who knows? It might just persuade others to make similar donations to classical ensembles.
I know very little about Taylor Swift, but credit where credit’s due.
