Schoenberg Centre reopens after fire
mainIn an amazingly swift clean-up and turnaround, the Arnold Schoenberg Centre in Vienna will reopen on Thursday, two weeks after a fire that forced the all-night evacuation of its major artefacts. The library, however, remains closed for the time being.
Latest news from the ‘Stürmische Beobachter’ of 24/8 informs us, that the fire has begun on page 67 of the score of the Violin Concerto, where all twelve notes of the row come together in a fortissimo. The score, which had seemed to increase temperatures of its surroundings, had been shelved at the attic for safety reasons, but the danger of persistent sun rays of the recent heat wave which penetrated the ocular top window had been overlooked.
