New opera boss for troubled Istanbul
mainIstanbul State Opera and Ballet has confirmed conductor Kevork Tavityan (also spelled Davidyan) as its new director general.
It’s an exceptionally delicate position. His predecessor resigned under Islamist government pressure.
Interesting that Istanbul (Islamists or not) is 88 positions ahead of Seattle for opera performances per year.
