… still cannot have the possibility to listen to him, – from the list of names you (Norman) mentioned recently Darrell Ang is very soon though 😉 time will tell 😉
Oh no, not another Lang Lang!
I do understand your worries , a little bird told me he was better than Mr.Double Lang 😉
Well, it’s just like … when you see someone in your Dorf wearing a toothbrush mustache, would you cry out ecstatically: “Oh no, not another Adolf!”
Accedental celebrity. George Li’s not another Lang Lang. I was surprised that he past to semi-final after mediocre rendition of Tchaikovsky “Variations”. So many great talents left behind. And he knew that he can’t win Chopin competition, withdrew and gave lame excuse.
It’s your hearing – not George Li’s playing – that is mediocre.
Take it easy. Even if you were right (you’re not), how would you feel if people said that about your playing? Should we all watch your YouTube videos of you playing and comment?
Oh, but Ms. Ross’s nasty comments about George Li are ok with you? Your frequent comments on this blog demonstrate that you truly believe that you are the inventor of “right”! But had you read more carefully, you’d know that I was commenting on her hearing, as I didn’t know her playing. But now that I’ve I’ve watched her YouTubes, It’s clear why she’s so jealous of George Li.
Steinway – misunderstanding. I was trying to respond to her. I agree with you.
Correct. Mercifully, George Li is NOT another Lang Lang; he’s a responsible, cultured musician of depth & substance whose artistry & virtuosity earned the approval of great conductors & top orchestras throughout the world, as well as the ire & jealousy of petty armchair critics with minimal talent. As for your comment about the Chopin Competition, his reason for withdrawing his application was because he no longer needed it: One enters a big competition is to attract international attention, world-wide management, a major recording contract, and 1st class engagements — all of which George Li already had thanks to his prize in Moscow. So if that’s what people like you call a “lame excuse”, so be it.
Thanks, La Verita, for inserting so much veritas (not to mention common sense and good taste) in one post.
I don’t care for LangLang-bashing, but these comparisons seem to stem from the fact that they both have Chinese ancestry and are pianists. Anyone who can’t hear the VAST GULF in their playing needs an audiologist. George Li is a spectacular virtuoso whose mechanism is firmly at the service of his musicianship (rather like Kissin, but more so, in my opinion).
I’ve read many of Esfir Ross’ comments here, as well as heard her playing in the Amateur Cliburn. She is a better pianist than judge of other pianists.
Why do you say that?
^ I mean, I agree we don’t need another Lang Lang, but why does it seem this guy might be one? Just curious, never heard/seen him play.
Dorftrottel…..
Put your racist comments aside, listen with your ears instead of your eyes, and then hopefully you’ll recognize that George Li has absolutely nothing in common with Lang Lang.
I have heard him this morning in Verbier in a very beautiful program. Shostakovich cello sonata,Cesar Frank violin sonata and Mendelssohn 1st piano trio. He is absolutely wonderful. A great pianist. Very musical and very cooperative to his colleagues.
He played an excellent Prokofiev 3 last season in Berlin.
