Why not mention the 3D printing experiment at the Universität für Angewandte Technik in Hamburg where the upper half of a violinist has been created? Unfortunately, the computer crashed at halfway, but the result was very promising, this lively half performing all the notes of Bach’s Chaconne above c”. (Currently they are working on the lower half.)
Per the article it has only two strings and it’s “piezoelectric” so it’s not even acoustic?

Never it will sounds like the real thing because the sound perceived depends on instrument’s directivity – among other things – and the design (beautiful in my humble opinion) is very different of the real thing. It will sound more or less similar but…does a hifi speaker sounds like the real instrument?
