No surprise there.
Thielemann, 58, has been in charge since 2009.

Great! Dresden + Thielemann = a winning association.
for how long?
Forever, I hope!
That is not clear yet. The heading is partly misleading. The orchestra members voted for Christian Thielemann to stay. Details of the contract including the time span will be part of the negotiations with the Ministry of Science and Cultural Affairs (cf. http://www.dnn.de/Kultur/Kultur-News/Staatskapelle-Dresden-stimmt-fuer-Verlaengerung-des-Vertrags-von-Christian-Thielemann). Negotiations might still fail …
I see. So the orchestra vote was a required vote of confidence, BEFORE the negotiations with the employer, the state of Saxony, can be finalized. And before those are finalized, they are not finalized… It should have been reported that way then.
Also Thielemann is not in charge since 2009 IIRC. His initial contract started in 2012?
I just read the statement of the orchestra board speaker in a German blog regarding the majority confidence vote. Now if one can read between the lines…
A pea in a pod.
Good for him, and them.
Their Lohengrin last year was out-of-this-world good.
The one with Netrebko reading the German words from a teleprompter?

The performance I attended was musically splendid. Pity the production was so poor.
