New sex charge against Munich’s ex-rector
mainSiegfried Mauser’s appeal against conviction for sexual molestation of two female academy colleagues has been disrupted by the presentation of new charge against him.
Mauser’s lawyer has dismissed the presentation of a third witness as opportunist. The state is demanding that Mauser’s original one-year sentence be trebled to three years.
The German pianist and musicologist, who is 62, was president of the Munich Hochschule from 2003 to 2014. He went on to become rector of the Salzburg Mozarteum and director of the city’s biennale until his trial in June 2016.
Latest court report here.
“Siegfried Mauser’s appeal […] has been disrupted by the presentation of new charge against him.”
Norman, the appeal will continue without disruption until properly concluded and only then will the Higher Regional Court in Munich decide on the start of a new trial based on the new charges.
“[…] the presentation of a third witness […]”
There’s actually a third and a fourth
witnessvictim. One woman has accused him of sexual assault (“sexuelle Nötigung”) on three separate occasions in 2007, 2009 and 2013, the other is accusing him of rape (“Vergewaltigung”) during the course of an employment interview in 2004.“The state is demanding that Mauser’s original one-year sentence be trebled to three years.”
Just for clarity’s sake, the original sentence was a one year suspended sentence and a €25.000 fine. The state demanding three years has nothing to do with these new charges but is part of the current appeal.
While Mauser is appealing the original sentence because he and his council want a “not guilty” verdict, the state is also appealing the original sentence as being too lenient.
