Barbara's lover, Picasso's rival, is dead
mainI am making a BBC documentary about the great singer-songwriter Barbara.
As we took a sombre walk to her grave this morning, I received news that her lover, the painter Luc Simon, has just died.
Before Barbara, Luc had been the lover of Francoise Gilot, Picasso’s wife.
Everyone describes him as a charming man and Barbara remained close to him after they parted. An image of his father’s may have offered the inspiration for her song, L’Aigle Noir…. but more about that in the programme I’m making.

I knew Luc Simon years ago and I’m surprised just to find very little on him on the web beside is relation with Françoise Gilot

It’s a programme for BBC Radio 3, going out December 18 at 19.45. I tried to interview Luc but he was too ill. I heard of his death from Barbara’s close friends.
