Only on the escalator? He needs to be in many other places for many others’ benefit.
I saw this production in Zürich with William Christie in the pit. It was a great evening, after initial scepticism on my part. It’s set in an airport (which suits the various nations in this opera who meet) and, as I recall, Rinaldo’s famous aria -where it seems time stops – was done in slow motion on the escalator! Wonderful idea. The sirens who tempt Rinaldo were glamorous stewardesses from a luxury Far Eastern airline. I do hope it is filmed this time round.
