Paris Opéra claims a younger audience
mainStéphane Lissner, director of the Paris Opéra says his cheap ticket scheme for under-28s is working well.
Last season, he claims, ‘we welcomed 100,000 patrons under 28,’ as well as registering a 15 percent increase in under 18s.
Lissner is now offering 40 percent ticket discounts to people aged 29 to 39.
The average attendance age at the Bastille is now 46 years old for opera, 42 for ballet.
Anybody got reliable age stats for the Met and Covent Garden?

Don’t want to sound churlish, it’s good news, but presumably they receive a subsidy which is capable of covering this.
I don’t have stats for Chicago, but Lyric Opera has done a wonderful job engaging young attendees. They have a flourishing Youth Opera Council for enthusiastic high school students, and they plan events all year. I have definitely noticed a wide gamut of ages at their recent productions.
