Biz tears: New York agent dies after 60 years service
mainThe death of announced of Mary Lynn Fixler, who retired last June as senior vice president at Barrett Artists.
She was 85.
Among the artists she looked after were: Rudolf Serkin, Robert Casadesus, Richard Tucker, Yevgeny Sudbin, Alessio Bax and Vadim Gluzman.
And Earl Wild.
Sad news! Mary Lynn was one of the nicest and loveliest of people in the agency business. I first met her almost exactly 35 years ago when I wished to engage Earl Wild for the first time. At Earl’s request, Mary Lynn set up a luncheon meeting with the three of us and Bill Judd at a restaurant near Lincoln Center. We all got on famously and I was to go on to engage Earl on three occasions. More importantly, I developed a friendship with Mary Lynn with whom I would have lunch on most of my visits to New York, even though I rarely engaged other artists from her lists at Bill Judd’s Agency or when she was with Herbert Barrett. She was warm-hearted, understanding, loved her work and her artists and will be much missed. RIP.
Mary Lynn Fixler was, and I am sure now will be forever my guardian angel. I was fortunate to have her in my life as a manager and close friend ever since I was signed with the Herbert Barrett’s office in 1995. She believed in her artists against all winds, she was gracious, elegant, very funny, and above all loving… Will miss her dearly, and always remember!!!
Rest In Peace Mary Lynn – we well keep making music in your honor!
Yes, agreed, Vadim! She was a wonderful colleague, extremely supportive and a passionate advocate for her clients. She will be missed!

Mary Lynn was a legendary agent but above all an exceptional human being. She truly believed in her artists, worked tirelessly until the very end in spite of her health and with a graciousness, kindness and empathy so hard to find nowadays. Those in the music world who have known her for a long time know how special she was. She always stayed true to her mission and to music. I feel very fortunate to have worked with her for so long and always felt like part of her own family. We will all miss her and know she will keep watching out for us!
Such sad news. She was great colleague and a great person. We shared many stories and much laughter. We will all miss her generous spirit.
Above being remembered as a mentor and manager to many fine artists, she maintained dignity throughout her career and left a legacy of many wonderful performances and recordings by artists whom she worked with. Hopefully, her standards have become the cornerstone of many newer generation artist managers.
Mary Lynn was an extraordinary manager, she cared deeply for all her artist and constantly sent up dates on their carrears. She wouldn’t let you bargen but talk about their quality.
She knew so much and was generous to shear her knowledge. She was fun, smart and loving. I was fortunate to meet her and will truly miss her.
Sad news. Mary Lynn was a mentor to me for many years, first at Judd, then at Barrett. Always a friend to her artists and a passionate supporter of what we did. And she worked to help so many young artists over the long course of her career, always with commitment, understanding, and love.
Mary Lynn was one of the greats. I feel honored to have worked with her.
