Arrau’s Cuban protégé has died, aged 90
mainIn 1945, German Diez received a letter from the great Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau, granting him a scholarship to study in the US for the next ten years. Aside from Arrau and his assistant Rafael de Silva, Diez also took lessons with Carl Friedberg and Eduard Steuermann.
He became a distinguished teacher in his own right at Greenwich House Music School, Bard College and SUNY Purchase.
