Maestro move: Quebec grabs a Brit
mainThe Canadian early music ensemble Les Violons du Roy has named Jonathan Cohen to succeed its founder, Bernard Labadie, who has stepped down.
Cohen, 39, associate director of William Christie’s Les Arts Florissants, took over a tour for Labadie two years ago. He is founder-director of Arcangelo and artistic partner of the St Paul Chamber Orchestra. Labadie has welcomed his appointment ‘with great pleasure.’

Just a precision concerning your post : Bernard Labadie had absolutely not “stepped down due to ill health”.
The goal was to allow him more time to develop his international career. Labadie announced this decision a couple of months before his cancer was diagnosed in 2014.
He recovered, he seems in very good shape and remains Artistic director of the associated chorus, La Chapelle de Québec, in addition of being « Founding Conductor » of Les Violons du Roy.

I wonder if there’s any hope of Cohen getting them to switch to period instruments.
