What a great orchestra!
Beautiful!
I never imagined he could conduct Bach, but he did well in the Matthäus-Passion four years ago. Good to see he’s expanding his repertory.
Rattle conducted the St John Passion in Birmingham in 2002, so Bach is not that new to him
Judging by the personnel shown, e.g. the Japanese concertmaster who left the orchestra some time ago and a much younger looking Stefan Dohr (principal horn) this is not a recent Rattle performance at all.
Info on the video: “Full-length concert: http://www.digitalconcerthall.com/con…
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No. 38 “Prague” / Sir Simon Rattle, conductor · Berliner Philharmoniker / Recorded at the Berliner Philharmoniker’s 2005 New Year’s Eve Concert.”
sounds very good but nothing compared with Mackerras and the Scotts or Gardiner and Norrington
The BPO videos focus on the musicians, with occasional glimpses of the conductor. Love it.

Yes, good point. You ever see those Mahler videos of Bernstein and VPO ? That was the other way around.
