Pittsburgh Symphony sacks 17 staff
mainThe aim is to balance the budget – at least that’s the official line.
The layoffs were all in the sales department.
The Symphony still employs 79 full-timers and 80 part-time, not including the musicians.
Artistically, it’s on a high with the Austrian Manfred Honeck, undertaking ambitious tours. But someone has to mind the pennies back home.
It’s OK! The musicians are fine. No one cares about the staff.

That’s yet another reason why Henson must go. But this is a discussion of Pittsburgh.
If they still have 79 full-time and 80 part-time sales staff, as this posting implies, they sound seriously over-staffed to me. 🙂
They do not have those numbers of sales staff: those are the numbers of ALL staff still employed. But I love how cutting those who bring in revenues is supposed to help decrease the deficit. Let’s see how this goes.
