The Los Angeles classical music radio station KUSC is being merged with San Francisco’s KDFC. Both are owned by the University of Southern California and the reason for the merger is opaque.

James Muhammad, president of the newly named Classical California, said: ‘We have world-class on-air talent and what we’d like is for our entire network to be able to have access to that talent.’

According to the LA Times, KUSC earned $10.4 million in 2024 with expenses of $9.8 million. KDFC made $7.3 million and paid out $7 million.

Both non-profits look like borderline operations.
