The conductor is quoted in the Times this morning:
‘The government is in such a hurry to commoditise music on behalf of the AI companies they have failed to account for the thousands of hours of learning and practice of those that create it, they don’t appear to have understood the long journey involved in a creative life. The battle for copyright is not one of art against technology, it is a battle to make sure that technology and art enhance each other. If you take away the livelihood of those who create music, you take away something that is precious to millions of people. And of course, this will ensure that much less is created and that therefore the future of music will be stunted.’

He went on to say: ‘It is so strange to be using this phrase: but music made by human beings is desperately needed in the modern world. This is what is at stake and we need our government to protect it.’
