For the past two weeks, staff pianists at the national conservatoires of Paris (pic) and Lyon have been on strike. They are demanding the removal of a 1,650-Euro cap on their monthly wages.

Other professors have also walked out and 1,400 musicians have signed a support petition. They include: conductors Alain Altinoglu, Raphaël Pichon and Tugan Sokhiev; singers Natalie Dessay, Sabine Devieilhe, Julie Fuchs and Patricia Petibon; composers Pascal Dusapin and Thierry Escaich and piano duo Katia and Marielle Labèque.
