The death has been made known of Frederick William Noonan, Associate Director of Programming in Lincoln Center’s classical heyday in the 1980s and 1990s. After leaving Lincoln Center, he was musical director for the 92nd Street Y. He died, aged 83, on January 15 in Burlington, Vermont, after a series of strokes.

Beethoven followers will recognise his name as translator of the composer memoirs by Wegeler and Ries.

Chorus director Judith Clurman writes: ‘He came to watch my conducting debut in NYC; he hired me for projects for years. . . Great Performers, Live from Lincoln Center, The Art of the Song, Mostly Mozart, & I can go on and on. . . I enjoyed working under his guidance.’
