The Turk who played duets with David Oistrakh
RIPThe death has been announced of the leading Turkish violinist Ayla Erduran, at the age of 90.
Ayla studied with David Oistrakh in Moscow in 1957-58 and played duets with him in concert. She also appeared with Yehudi Menuhin, Henryk Szeryng and Mieczyslaw Weinberg.
She established a teaching practice in Swirzerland from 1973 to 1990.
I am so sorry to hear this. Back in Istanbul, I attended many of her concerts. She was a brilliant performer with a magnetic stage presence and a wonderful human being. I will always remember her Sibelius concerto. Rest in peace Ayla.
