SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The longtime organist for the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist has died at 95.
Patricia Barragan Schreck, 95, died on Thursday, Jan. 2. She served as the organist and choir director at the Cathedral for 66 years.
She became the organist at 16 years old in February of 1946. Schreck managed several choirs including the Cathedral Men’s Choir, the Women’s Choir, the Savannah Catholic Deanery Choir and the SVA Alumnae Chorus.
An amazing length of time and as a woman of her day.
On behalf of the musicians and board of directors of the Savannah Philharmonic, we honor today the memory of Patricia Barragan Schreck and the lasting musical contribution she has made to this, her community. Our thoughts are with her devoted son Monsignor Schreck and the parishioners of the Basilica of St. John the Baptist who were comforted by her artistry on the organ there.
