A New York vocalist who sang at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally last October has been chose to deliver the anthem at the presidential inauguration. Christopher Macchio is a classical-crossover artist with a portfolio of arena events.

Singing the anthem at the White House is a challenge. Jackie Evancho had the honour at the first Trump inauguration. Lady Gaga performed for Joe Biden.

Macchio, 46, is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music. Trump has compared him to Pavarotti.
