Congrats to her, but why does this merit an entire post devoted to her? Are we going to do one for all newly appointed orchestra musicians?
It is a relative rarity for a female to win a tuba gig. Philly was a pretty big deal; this seems to be a good thing, too.

The piping is a tube. It’s cylindrical as it goes through the valve casing. After the valve casing, the ‘tubes’ become conical in shape.
