Colin Jacobsen was never going to be rank and file.

At an early age he founded the the string quartet Brooklyn Rider and the collaborative orchestra The Knights, which he co-leads with his cellist brother Eric. Their mother, a flutist, died young. Their father was a violinist in the Metropolitan Opera orchestra.

Colin recalls people coming round to their house to play chamber music all night.

He joined up with Yo Yo Ma on the Silk Road trail.

Colin talks to David Krauss in the latest episode of Speaking Soundly.
