Bryn Terfel: This may be my last role at the Met

The Welsh bass-baritone is back at the Metropolitan Opera after an absence of 13 years, singing Scarpia in Tosca before quitting the role for good.

Terfel, 59, informed the NY Times that he had no further Met engagements ahead.

General manager Peter Gelb said: ‘He has a stage presence unlike anyone else I’ve ever encountered.’

    Says it all that he hasn’t been there for 13 years. Was once THE opera house bar none..now a frail shadow of its former self..

      I think it says more about Terfel and his penchant for cancellation.

      I’m glad to see him come back as Scarpia.

      Read the NYT article it explains why several returns were torpedoed by injuries to Mr. T. It’s not that he wasn’t scheduled…

    It would be great if the Met could revive Il Trittico, and cast him as Michele in Il Tabarro and/or as Gianni Schicchi.
