Yuval Sharon quits LA to be near the Met
OperaThe innovative opera director has resigned as artistic director at the LA-based Industry. He has been booked to direct a Ring cycle at the Met and wants to spend more time near the furnace.
Tim Griffin will succeed him at the Industry.
There can be many resons to quit LA nowadays. Even for NYC.
Will he do the Ring backwards like the Bohème in Detroit?
Pretty much the only thing left that hasn’t been tried — as far as I know…
Funnily enough, Wagner wrote the libretti in reverse order…!
Dortmund’s 2025 Ring isn’t backward, but is out of order: Walküre, Siegfried, Rheingold, Götterdämmerung. Not sure why…
Probably not, but it will look like this https://operawire.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/4_DO_Valkyries_Mary_Jaglowski_9_15_2022_mc_245-scaled.jpg
(Yes that is not a “work in progress” but what the audience sees.)
Don’t let the door hit you on your way out . . .
I wish people would stop calling him “innovative.” Really?
His Hollywood Bowl ‘greenscreen’ Valkyries Act 3 was very innovative. Bravo
