Sheku Kanneh-Mason: I like playing in a bar
Daily Comfort ZoneTalking to Zsolt Bognar on Living the Classical Life, the British cellist thinks classical musicians should get out more. Concert halls are fine, he says, but a bar is where you meet different types.
When he’s off duty, he plays Bob Marley and Michael Jackson.
When he’s down, he reads Haydn string quartets.
Watch here.
Well, good. With his talent, a bar is about where he should be playing. Perhaps he could put out a tip jar. I wouldn’t expect much, but perhaps some might tip modestly.
Perhaps the name of the bar should be… Low?
Woke bar none? His recording of Elgar’s cello concerto is not in Gautier Capuçon’s class. Infact Capuçon is street’s of Du Pre too. Capuçon gets under the dirt of the notes, where she plays it safe.
Along with matt haimovitz… and where they both belong, too
Is the tone of some of these comments really necessary?
I’m not his biggest fan, but ………
I’m trying to conjure up Marley on the cello.
I got very drawn to his music when in Jamaica. But I will stick to his own versions.
