Ralph Fiennes and Olivier Award winner Indira Varma star in a brand-new modern dress production of William Shakespeare’s shortest play. If you’re not familiar with Macbeth, it’s about a couple corrupted by their relentless lust for power, with blood on their hands, a gripping tale of greed, murder, deception, and superstition.
Filmed live at a custom-built theatre space in London, this critically acclaimed staging of Macbeth, writes the Financial Times, “quickens the pulse, then goes for the jugular’ and is now available on National Theatre at Home.

I think The Comedy of Errors is Shakespeare’s shortest play (certainly in terms of line counts), but Macbeth is Shakespeare’s shortest tragedy. It is believed that the text we have is that from a revival, possibly edited by Thomas Middleton – so possibly streamlined compared with the original.
Thanks for the recommendation Ruth: I’ve heard lots of good things about the production and look forward to seeing it for myself.
