  • Myra O'Norma says:

I believe it stated Mary on the birth certificate (though of course she never used that name)

  • Anon says:

Will you be reviewing Maria, starring Angelina Jolie? I will not watch it unless you recommend it.

    • Tristan says:

what you expect? It’s awful I was told! How on earth can this mediocre actress play the Goddess….

    • Sidelius says:

That’s more than a bit disturbing. What if lots of other critics like it? Do you just disregard them? And surely it must be better than the Bernstein one!

  • zandonai says:

    Brava Tebaldi

  • Marcellus says:

The birth certificate said “Sophie Cecelia Kalos”, according to biographies by Michael Scott and Sophia Lambton: the family had previously shortened their surname after their arrival in New York. “Maria Anna” was added when the child was baptised, aged 3.

  • Jean says:

I’m Tired of hearing about callas. Zzz

    • Sidelius says:

Jean – Right, she’s only the greatest singer who ever lived. How interesting could that be? Maybe you would prefer someone with, you know, less musical genius? But why? A less “operatic” personality? Again, why?

  • geo. says:

Late one night, on Thai TV, there was an hour of Callas performances. The best hour of TV I’ve ever seen.
