You didn’t mention her cancelling last weeks recital at the Concertgebouw, so why highlight this one? Musician’s get sick/injured, it happens to the very best and most of the time there’s little they can do about it. Can’t see why it’s news worthy though, the concert halls make sure ticket holders are given as much notice as possible. What else is there to say?

    • Frank says:

Carnegie clearly thought it was newsworthy. They put out a press release announcing it.

Incidentally, so did Princeton, NJ’s concert series, which also announced a replacement in James Ehnes. Their audiences came ahead of Carnegie’s, it would seem.

    • What a shame says:

The whole tour (1 December to 11 December) was cancelled.

Couldn’t Janine and Carnegie do better than announce the cancellation of the 10 December concert on 9 December?

People book hotels, transport, babysitters, restaurant reservations… With notice these can be re-arranged, but with only 24 hours’ notice the consequence is that people are left out of pocket.

      • No comment says:

They also sent out the standard re-affirmation “Concert Reminder: Tuesday, December 10 at 8 PM” at noon on the 8th, one day before the cancellation notice.

She also cancelled a string of UK concerts in 2023, similar story

Please defer your Calendar Remembrances of a Grand Violinist, Janine Jansen. I am a protege of Jascha Heifetz and Nathan Milstein, knowing full well All the difficulties of Int’l Concert Touring and it takes much out of the human physique plus ongoing non stop practising with Jet Lag to stay at one’s Best Concert Form … I would not infer and even if you did not mean to, but not being a Concert Artist Cancelled police person which may only be a sad recall of a concert you hoped to attend of Ms Jansen. All Concert Touring artists Are Human Beings and most sensitive to their audiences. As mentioned just below, Ms. Jansen may well be in a Hotel Room crying her eyes out at having/forced cancelled and at Last Minute due a late diagnosis of injured wrist in either hand which is a required part of the human body to play any Instrument less the Violin, dear Sir! I know much about this and offer my sincere best wishes for her to fully recover from an injury which in the future could cause grave harm to a concert Career if not tended to and properly Now … Hilary Hahn had to recently withdraw from her role as Violin Soloist with The Berliner Philharmoniker & On Tour in Carnegie Hall which was talked about throughout the Concert Violin World. I am sure H.H. did not do nor J.J. do anything purposefully. It is truly bizarre to sense criticism from those never playing Violin on highest artistic levels … So sorry you seem to be following her every obstacle. She Will Come Back! E. Matesky/US

    Best wishes for her.

But why wait until so late to let ticket buyers know?

‘Apostle’ of Jascha Heifetz and Nathan Milstein here … Ms Jansen may not have known of full severity of the Fall and on a wrist which is paramount to any performance and certainly if playing in NYC’s Carnegie Hall … Her fidelity to Music is not to be questioned by Any Person. She is more than likely in a Hotel room sobbing gobs of tears. Offer much empathy for a sincere artist … Best Wishes from the US ~ US Violinist/Artist Teacher Violin & Carrier of Heifetz-Milstein Legacy of Violin Artistry & Bowing Art, Elisabeth Matesky (only on FB: Elisabeth Anne Matesky) 10.12.24 Today is 37th Yr Anniversary of my 1st GOAT Violin Mentor, Jascha Heifetz’s Earthly Passing in W. Try acupuncture and get well soon.

  • Question says:

Does Denis Kozhukhin still get paid when Janine cancels? I hope so…

  • DG says:

They were probably trying to line up a suitable replacement and couldn’t make it happen.

  • Christin says:

    Why no replacement?

  • zandonai says:

can’t they replace her with that cute fiddler from Celtic Woman?
