Breaking: Vienna replaces Netrebko with Lise Davidsen
OperaWe’re hearing that the Vienna State Opera has replaced Anna Netrebko in all January performances of Ariadne auf Naxos.

Davidsen and Spyres… it’s beginning to sound like it might be worth a trip.
Or they couldn’t implement into the production a sufficiently large teleprompter so she could follow the text (since she speaks no German even after so many years as an Austrian citizen). The Austrian authorities ought to take notice that no one should be exempt from the language requirements expected and demanded of everyone else.
There are several exemptions to the Austrian language requirements. Included are Scientific Contributions, Business Contributions, Sports Achievement and Artistic Contributions. Anna Netrebko qualifies as a “globally acclaimed artist.”
Netrebko indeed qualifies as a “globally acclaimed artist” only within the context of ever more ignorant and ever more reduced audiences. It’s the reason practically everything everyone everywhere everynight gets a Standing O. Also part of the reason the profession of music criticism is in the doldrums in parallel with the slow but imminent death of opera.
Less than global at this point.
2024 Netrebko to 2024 Davidsen is a big upgrade
That’s good. Her voice is better suited for German opera than Italian.
No one can replace the incredible Anna Netrebko in Vienna or anywhere…

I have recently heard Lisa Davidsen and didn’t like the sound at all , the vocal placement seemed wrong to me .

Netrebko should be shunned everywhere due to her continued support of war criminal Putin.
