A concert for the brilliant writer Joseph Roth
OrchestrasThe Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv, newly appointed principal guest conductor of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, has dedicated her first concert to the memory of the Austrian-Jewish writer Joseph Roth, like herself born in the border town of Brody. Roth is best known for his Hapsburg-ending novel Radetsky March and for his Biblical-parable novella, Job.
Lyniv, 46, is music director of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna.
The first opportunity to experience Oksana Lyniv with the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra will be on Sunday, January 12, 2025. To mark the 130th birthday of the Austrian-Jewish writer Joseph Roth, who, like Lyniv, was born in Brody, there will be a literary-musical program entitled “Echoes of Remembrance: Jewish Traces in Brody”. The concert with works by Yevhen Orkin, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Johann Sebastian Bach will take place at 6 pm in the Düsseldorf Synagogue (Paul-Spiegel-Platz 1, 40476 Düsseldorf). Registration at https://jgdus.de/anmeldung/ is necessary.
