The Vienna State Opera has posted a death notice for Lilly Scheuermann, its principal ballerina for a very long spell, 1972 to 1990. Lilly, who danced often with Rudolf Nureyev, died this week, aged 79.
Vienna born, she held a special place in audience hearts.

This is a bit misleading: she danced supporting roles in many performances in which Rudolf Nurejew starred (zB one of four of „Giselle’s friends“), but she rarely danced with him (of 64 performances of „Schwanensee“, she basically danced one of the four „kleinen Schwäne“ or in the Hungarian Dance). In four performances of Balanchine’s „Apollo“ in the late 1970s, he partnered he as Terpsichore, but I see no other evidence of them actually dancing together.
