Silly sums: $2 billion to renew an opera house?
OperaFrom SWR:
The planned renovation of the Stuttgart Opera House could cost between 1.5 and 2 billion euros – this is what research by the SWR has shown. Up until now, the public has always talked about a billion euros. In addition, according to the latest findings, the construction project could only be completed in 2044 – four years later than planned…
The German word for this is Grossenwahn.
Thats really crazy. What Stuttgart really needs desperately is a new concert hall to replace the outdated Liederhalle. My orchestra was there a few years ago and it was the most rubbish hall on the trip.
Don’t forget the Umlaut.
Grössenwähn, ök?
(Pröbäbäbly nö Ümläüts ön Cömpüters fröm the yÜK).
It’d be cheaper – and quicker – just to build a whole new one.
IIRC when the new Centre for Music was being touted as a welcome replacement for the Barbican, it’s cost was 500 million…and that’s in ultra expensive London…2 billion is crazy!!!
Double, triple, quadruple costs and an eternity for construction is the norm for those projects in Germany. Ber airport, Elbphilharmonie, Stuttgart 21 train station …. Cologne opera house. At least the “traffic light government” managed a premature exit.
