Maestra winner shelters from Lebanon rockets
OrchestrasBar Avni, winner of the Maestra competition, was caught short yesterday by an air-raid warning in Tel Aviv and took shelter in a safe space at the Israel Opera.
Bar is presently conducting two concerts with the Israel Symphony orchestra, which is resident at the Opera.
She had gone to hear the orchestra and sheltered with them in a stairwell when the alarm went off just after a performance of L’elisir d’amore. (Thanks to Dan Yakir for the extra details).
The 2023 film about this “Maestra” competition, reviewed on Slipped Disc just six months ago, oddly cannot be viewed in Europe. At all.
Any news on how the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra is coping? No events are listed on its website.
The Gaza Orchestra has also been silenced, but the Ramallah Orchestra heroically continues.
