Hilary Hahn: I’m under AI attack
NewsThe US violinist has posted this message on her socials:
Hi all, I’ve received reports that someone has been using AI to create videos impersonating me. I’d like to reiterate that my only social media accounts are Facebook (@hilaryhahn), Instagram (@Violincase), TikTok (@hilaryhahnofficial), Twitter (@violincase), and YouTube (@hilaryhahnvideos). Anyone reaching out from any other handle is neither me nor is it anyone affiliated with me.
We have a very special community here, and I am so grateful to have such an incredible fanbase. Please know that neither I nor my management would ever reach out to ask for money in exchange for meetings, private lessons, backstage access, or any other services. If in doubt, please don’t engage with suspicious posts, and please continue to report impersonators.
Hmm, but how do we know that this is the real Hilary that’s claiming to be under attack . . .
How does she know AI isn’t a fan of hers, or that indeed her fanbase isn’t generated by AI?
How do we know Hilary Hahn isn’t AI? Or at least her recording isn’t computer generated?
Too many accounts, and btw Twitter is now called X….just saying.
No one calls it that except Elon
Oui, ex-Twitter.
She’s got accounts on five different social media platforms–that can’t be particularly safe.
Why is everyone so obsessed about these randomly fed platforms?
Presumably she does not actually do much of the copy on any of them. I consider that many social media accounts very teenage, or Kardashian.
News is broken on X these days. That’s where Biden announced he wouldn’t be running again before his staff in the same building even knew. It took mainstream media at least half an hour to pick up the story. And this is just a single example. There are now countless.
NYT. WSJ. Nightly network news. Visits and viewership are plummeting.
X viewership continues to hit records.
No, it’s not just a K Kard phenomenon.
Hilary is fantastic and she understands the importance of staying connected.
Creepy — and remember, we are in what will soon come to be known as the baby phase, the very earliest stages and iterations of AI. Just the other day David Attenborough came forward because AI has now been able to reproduce his distinctive voice — his stock in trade so to speak — very convincingly, and it can make “him” say whatever they want.
Pity they don’t do better on the audiobooks they put out on it — I have started the odd one (by accident) and had to abandon early.
David, that’s a horrifying hint of a future where humans will be unable to distinguish fact from illusion, and the Elon Musk’s of the world will be able to impose their self-serving delusions on the whole planet. Goodbye democracy. Hello oligarchy. Oh wait…we just did that.
We are truly now living in a “Bravo New World”
I only have 2 social media accounts – AOL and Slippedisc
You are future-proof!
The YouTube link appears to point to an incorrect Instagram page…
Shouldn’t be hard to replicate her stone cold robotic playing style via AI…..
AI is the biggest con of this century. The idea that something artificial can be intelligent is absurd. Intelligence requires thinking and nothing artificial can think. The best it can do is reproduce what has been programmed into it.
It can do much more than that. It can reach out and gather information in all formats (natural language, sound, and illustrations as well as the more conventional data formats) from the entire internet as well as the specific information that might be fed to it. Then it can cross reference and analyze that information at trillions of operations per second, something indescribably beyond human ability, and produce output indistinguishable from the results of human cognition. And we are at the very beginning of it. Increasing processing and telecommunication speeds, and algorithms that are created by the AI itself and support autonomy, will soon make today’s AI capabilities seem like an adding machine. The unanswerable question of whether or not it is truly intelligent, or “conscious” (whatever that even means) is irrelevant as far as I’m concerned; the practical results will be the same regardless. I doubt that you’ll continue to underestimate its capabilities during the next few years, or even months.
You can only get a majority “thumbs up” here if you avoid humor about Hilary’s situation, and instead say something sympathetic about it.
Another unfortunate sign of a times we live in! Why? Lawlessness and disrespect worldwide!
What’s Twitter? Is it like BlueSky?
Many times I have watched and listened to Hilary. The “Music News Site” shows ONLY her!
What is with all the weird downvoting happening on this article?
usians are particularly obcessed with “social” media. how about getting rid of all the us empire trash ?
I really like HH. It kind of surprises me how rude some people are being and with one guy, freddy, actually saying something nasty regarding her violin playing. What has gotten into people? It’s not just not understanding others’ sense of humor-I’m afraid it’s more than that. People just don’t really care anymore how they’re perceived and if given a choice to say something nice or nasty they’ll usually choose nasty every single time. And I’m no angel myself, just pointing this out.
