Brutality alleged at Bayreuth Baroque
OperaThe German gadfly Axel Brüggemann has spoken to ten staff members and past singers who claim to have been mistreated at Bayreuth Baroque, the revived festival directed by countertenor Max Emanuel Cenčić.
The allegations include abusive text messages and physical altercations during rehearsals. There appears to be no complaints procedure. The festival is managed by a Vianna artists agency.

I read that nudity was a central element of Baroque theater….
Is this Bayreuth’s anus horribilis?
Hopefully it’s not baroque brutality as well (thumbscrews, the rack, tar and feathers, etc.)
The comfy chair…
It’s all so deliciously Wagnerian, isn’t it? One can imagine the VSO swelling into paroxysms, as ***** ***** chucks yet another chair at a visiting soprano….
the system is seriously baroke.
