Bavaria honours Bayreuth’s breakthrough baton
OrchestrasThe special award of Bavaria’s culture prizes for 2024 was bestowed today on the Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv, the first woman to conduct an opera at the Bayreuth Festival.
‘Oksana Lyniv is a top-class conductor, a musical pioneer and an inspiring bridge-builder,’ said Bavaria’s Arts Minister Markus Blume.
Refreshing to read comments which are not politically motivated.
It’s not just Donald Trump who lies at least three times in every sentence.
Played under her baton. She is a poor conductor, by no means “a top-class”. But I understand the prize rather as a symbol of our Ukraine support.
I heard her several times at the Berlin Staatsoper: all performances were way to loud and there was no inner stringendcy – in one word boring!
Doesn’t matter. She’s fashionable and Ukrainian to boot. What else do you need to build a career?
Perhaps we attended different performances – I found her Medea two years ago energetic and driven.
There’s a current fashion for posing for photos with a stiff, vacuous facial expression. Why?
‘cos there’s not a photographer present.
