Renowned Chopinist dies, 72
RIPWe have received news of the death yesterday of the much-recorded Polish pianist Janusz Olejniczak.
After coming sixth in the 1970 Chopin Competition, won by the American Garrick Ohlsson (with Mitsuko Uchida in second place), Olejniczak taught piano at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and the Krakow Academy of Music.
Aside from extensive activity for several record labels, he played much of the music in Polanski’s film The Pianist and appeared as an actor as Chopin himself in Andrzej Żuławski’s 1991 film Błękitna nuta.
