Jews will go to synagogues tonight with heavy hearts. No year has been harder in living memory. No answers are expected with confidence. Here are some points of musical contemplation.

Though, of course, Avinu Malkeinu won’t be sung this year as Yom Kippur falls out on Shabbat.

  • yaron says:

A very troubled Yom Kipur. Some 300 air raid / rocket alerts around the country. My family again under fire.

    • V.Lind says:

Sad to hear. I expect you are as sympathetic to the families in south Lebanon (to say nothing of UN peacekeepers) suffering under as great or greater fire, as well as to the many Gazan families who have suffered under far more than rocket fire in the last year.

      • yaron says:

Starting a war has consequences. What did these people expect when they attacked Israel on October 7th?
And what did the villagers of Lebanon expect when they allowed Hizbulla take over their homes and hide rockets in their basements?
As for sympathy: I do have sympathy for the millions of Arabs who pay the price of their leaders’ repeated miscalculations. However, they do not seem to understand that. Most Palestinians now support Hamas and reject any kind of compromise.

        • Saxon Broken says:

Do most arabs really support Hamas? I think this is unlikely.
Although they don’t exactly have independent organisations conducting opinion polls to find out (and it would be dangerous for Gazans to say they do not support Hamas).
